How to Extract in No More Room in Hell 2

Extraction is the difference between a growing Responder and a deleted one. In No More Room in Hell 2, Scenario deployments ask your squad to clear points of interest, complete Critical POIs, finish the final objective chain, and board the helicopter. Only a successful extract — or a deliberate early hatch when the lobby has collapsed — reliably returns your character to the roster. This guide covers the full flow after the August 11, 2026 Armageddon release across Steam, Epic, PS5, and Xbox Series.

Why extract matters more than kills

Permadeath applies to Responders. A stylish wipe still costs the character, loadout pieces tied to that person, and the skill slots you unlocked on them. Extracting with supplies drives character XP, which opens more skill slots. Account XP from completed objectives is more durable, but it will not rebuild a dead Responder. If you are still learning the opening loot route, skim Getting Started first, then treat every match as an extract attempt.

Compass, map marks, and the Scenario spine

Press C to open the compass. Red indicators point toward the active main objective; the map mirrors Critical sites with strong markers so the squad can share routes. Named POIs without the Critical treatment still fund weapons, medical items, codes, and the supply pile you want on the chopper.

A healthy Scenario spine looks like this:

  1. Form up at early named locations.
  2. Complete enough optional sites to be combat-ready.
  3. Clear required Critical POIs as a group.
  4. Execute the finale objective under rising pressure.
  5. Reach the helicopter extract and board together.

Skipping straight from spawn to the first Critical marker is how undergeared Responders feed the horde. Use Maps and Objectives for POI context, and study a classic finale in the Power Plant Walkthrough before you captain a push.

Full helicopter extract flow

When Critical POIs are done, the mission shifts to the final objective — often a high-noise sequence that calls more infected. Assign roles before you start: who holds doors, who runs codes or power steps, who watches the rear, who carries pills and gene therapy. Hold E near teammates for VoIP link so callouts cut through chaos.

After the finale triggers extract, move as a unit toward the helicopter site. Conserve stamina for the last sprint. Do not peel for vanity loot once the map is collapsing. Boarding the helicopter is the clean win: you keep the Responder, bank character XP from supplies, and retain account XP from objectives completed along the way.

Stay until the match fully resolves. Wait for the end screen and confirm rewards before you alt-tab or close the client. Leaving early can cost the save you just earned.

Early extract when three or fewer remain

If living Responders drop to three or fewer, early extraction unlocks. Green hatch icons appear across the map. Reach a hatch, open it, and descend into the extraction bunker to pull your character out of a dying deployment.

Early extract is a survival tool, not a shortcut farm:

  • Your Responder lives and returns to the roster.
  • You forfeit character XP for that deployment.
  • Account XP from objectives you already finished still counts.
  • Supplies you carried typically feed the remaining pool for players who stay to finish.

Choose early extract when the finale is unwinnable, infection is about to turn you, or the last Critical step needs bodies you no longer have. Stay for the helicopter when the squad is stable, cured, and stocked — that is how Progression and Permadeath actually moves forward.

Infection and extract timing

An infected Responder who turns near the pad can wipe the run. Use Phalanx Pills to suppress infection for about five minutes while you rotate to safety or a cure. Experimental Gene Therapy removes the infection entirely. If you cannot cure before a turn, early hatch may be kinder to the team than gambling the helicopter. Details sit on How to Treat Infection.

Extract checklist

  • Compass on C before every rotation.
  • Gear at named POIs before Critical work.
  • Squad up; do not solo finales.
  • Cure or suppress infection before the pad.
  • Board together; ignore late loot greed.
  • Wait through the end screen.
  • If three or fewer Responders remain, evaluate green hatches honestly.

Master these habits and extract becomes the planned ending every good NMRIH 2 match deserves.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Responders preparing for the next deployment.

How do I track the current extract objective?

Press C for the compass. Red markers highlight the active main objective, and the map shows Critical POI circles so the squad can route together.

When does early green-hatch extract open?

When three or fewer Responders remain alive. Hatches save the character but forfeit character XP for that deployment.

Do I keep account XP if I extract early?

Account XP from objectives you already completed is retained. Character XP for that run is forfeited when you take the early hatch.

Why should I wait on the end screen?

Progress and rewards finalize when the match fully resolves. Leaving immediately after boarding can risk losing the save you earned.

Is Survival extract the same as Scenario?

No. Survival mode at 1.0 still ends in an evac under wave pressure, but the civilian-defense loop differs — learn Scenario helicopter flow here first.
